A Man in Malawi’s Dowa district hangs himself over a loyal family dispute

A 44-year-old man has committed suicide in Dowa district after failing to pay a fine of MK500.

Dowa Police publicist Sergeant Richard has confirmed the incident which happened over the weekend.

Sergeant Kaponda identified the deceased as Harold Kamg’oma of Chingwetseni village in the area of traditional authority Chiwere in the district.

 

Kaponda said the elders of Chingwetseni village organized farming activities to raise money to buy graveyard tools.

He said on that day, the deceased from the loyal family reported late and this did not go well with other elder who ordered the deceased to pay a fine of MK500 for coming late.

According to Kaponda the deceased appeared annoyed and he left without a word, only to be found daggling on a Tangerine tree in a near-by bush the following morning.

Post-mortem conducted at Dowa district hospital revealed that death was due to suffocation.
