An act of love filled the air last Thursday, June 4, 2020 in Chikwawa Nkombezi Constituency when the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) legislator for the area, Abida Mia reached out to thousands of needy constituents and distributed to them 61 bales of used clothes.

The marathon of love saw the female politician distributing clothes to the needy in the three places of Group Village Headman (GVH) Therere, GVH Mphungu and GVH Jombo in the area.

According to Mia, the distribution exercise was one way of easing the hardship that the people are currently experiencing in their daily life hence thought it appropriate to cushion their need with such kind gesture.

“These people are struggling a lot to make ends meet from day to day and reaching out to them in such a way is what they need the most,” said Mia who pledged never to leave the people alone but continue assisting them in every way possible.

Similar exercise also happened in Chikwawa South Contituency where MCP legislator for the area, Iryas Karim distributed 15 bales of clothes.

Mia who is fondly called “Mama” meaning “mother” for everybody regardless of political party affiliation, bemoaned the spate of hunger that the people are experiencing because they did not harvest enough due to harsh weather conditions in the last growing season.

Through using her own personal funds, Mia pledged to continue distributing relief food in the way she has done many times before.

In all the places, Mia urged thousands of people who came to witness the distribution to vote for Tonse Alliance Torchbearer, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as President alongside his runningmate Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima in the forthcoming fresh Presidential polls.

She assured the people that by voting for Chakwera who is also the MCP President, they have a good reason for doing so because, it only this matured, loving, God-fearing leader with clean reputation who has the political will to better the lives of Malawians and truly turn their lives from poverty to prosperity.

In her busy schedule for the day, Abida Mia also addressed 150 members of Ronex Youth Club in Dwaliti Village who invited her to appreciate their efforts in the ongoing Youth Afforestation Program.

The youths, through their Director, Amos Chanza who is also Village Headman Dwaliti complained about lack of government’s appreciation through poor remuneration in the programme.

Contrary to the prior agreement in the 90 days period of working on the forest, Chanza complained that instead of paying them MK900 per day, officials from the government’s department of forestry only paid them MK1,200 each.

The Afforestation Program in Dwaliti Village started on August 27, 2016.
