LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The General Secretary of Action Aid International, Adriano Campolina, is in the country for a one and half day official visit to appreciate the interventions Action Aid Malawi is undertaking across the country in various areas of human wellness including women rights, health and education.
Action Aid Malawi is also one of the country’s principal recipient of the Joint TB/HIV Grant from the Global Fund which it disburses to other local and international organizations for their effective response in the fight against AIDS and Tuberculosis.
Campolina arrived on Thursday afternoon through Kamuzu International Airport and was welcomed by NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGO-GCN) Chairperson Barbara Banda, Ministry of Gender official Alice Mkandawire and other officials from Action Aid Malawi.
“We appreciate the women rights, education and health work the Malawi team is doing. But most importantly, I have come to discuss with our colleagues on how we can continue moving together as a federation of 45 countries in addressing the problems people face in our jurisdictions,” he said.
Campolina added that he also expects to discuss with various cooperating partners of Action Aid Malawi with the intention of deepening their working relationship in various interventions.
“We need to focus on programs that ensure people’s resilience to climate change and promote women participation in politics and decision making positions”.
He assured the poor and the vulnerable that they should not worry because his visit to Malawi seeks to find even much better interventions of improving their lives.
NGO-GCN Chairperson Barbara Banda said her network would take advantage of Campolina’s visit to highlight gender based violence as one of the many problems that affect efforts to promote women in Malawi.

She hoped that from their discussions, something better would come out to give women in the country some new beginning and hope.
“The issue of women participation in politics is also equally important considering that we are heading towards elections and promoting the 50:50 campaign which is also facing challenges,” Banda noted.
