BLANTYRE, Saturday, August 29, 2015, (MaraviPost): The Historical soccer rivalry of the two Blantyre based soccer teams Big Bullets and Mighty Be-forward Wanderers was on display once again today at Civo Stadium in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.
Lately the rivalry had appeared to be one-sided as it favored Big Bullets who had been winning.
However today things were on the onset going to be different as Big Bullets were hurt by Aliya Kananji who had other plans for his former side.
Two goals from Victor Nyirenda for BE Forward Mighty Wanderers and the lone goal for Big Bullets from Kondwani Kumwenda handed the Nomads a 2-1 victory this Saturday afternoon.
Without their injured defensive star Sankhani Mkandawire, Bullets defence was in shambles as they were forced into many errors from the ferocious attacks from their rival BE Forward Might.
The team known as Nomads came on aggressively as Kumwenda, Mike Kaziputa, Isaac Kaliyati and Luke Milanzi attacked from all angles like creating early chances for them. Might Wanderers striker Nyirenda had his first chance in the 5th minute but defender Miracle Gabeya cleared the ball before crossing the goal line.
Few minutes later, Nyirenda wasted another opportunity when he was set through by Kaliyati only to fire wide with the goalkeeper to beat.
But finally, Be Forward Wanderers finally broke through as Milanzi was brought down by Gabeya in the penalty box giving referee Patrick Ngoleka no choice but to award the Nomads a penalty.
Nyirenda stepped in and converted, kicking past Owen Chaima in goals for the Big Bullets who were designated as visitors even though both teams travelled from Blantyre to Lilongwe for the Match.
Kaliyati and Kumwenda tried Goalkeeper Chaima with long range efforts but they were unlucky not to double their lead.
Big Bullets then equalized as the first half was winding down, through Jafali Chande who headed past Richard Chipuwa from a Pilirani Zona’s free kick just outside the Nomads goal area, 1-1.
Big Bullets returned the favor in the second half as their midfield started to tick, easing the pressure piled on their shaky defence.
Fischer Kondowe paved way for MacFallen Ngwira for Bullets while Rafique Mussa came in for Alfred Manyozo Jnr.
Nomads Coach Kananji put Mussa as a substitute, a move that paid dividend as the Nomads took control of the match from Bullets who were slowly building some series of attack in the midfield. Chiukepo Msowoya skied a chance over the bar before Chande; s effort was blocked by Kondwani Lufeyo.
Kumwenda scored the winner in the 32rd minute with a powerful volley into the bottom corner with his weaker left foot, 2-1.
Bullets then introduced Diverson Mlozi and Jelles Lufeyo to try and find the equalizer but Stanley Sanudi, Bongani Kaipa, Kondwani Lufeyo and Ted Sumani were too strong in defence for the hosts.
However, Bullets could have leveled again in the dying minutes when Mlozi was fouled by Lufeyo but Ngoleka waved his hands for a play on, leaving all Bullets fans in anger and despondent.
