LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The head coach of Blue Eagles FC, Eliah Kananji, has expressed concerns about the team’s recent performance, likening it to a sinking ship.
He, therefore, called upon the executive to meet with the players and address the underlying problems.
Kananji’s concerns stem from Blue Eagles’ 1-0 home loss against Moyale Barracks FC on Saturday.
Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, the Area 30 outfit couldn’t secure a victory.
Moyale Barracks’ substitute Chifundo Damba scored on his debut in the 66th minute, taking advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Chakonda Majanga.
The defeat has intensified the pressure on Eliah Kananji and his team, as are currently occupy the 15th position with only 17 points from 18 games played.
This loss follows a previous weekend’s 2-2 draw against newcomers Bangwe All-Stars.
In that game, Blue Eagles had more chances but failed to convert them into goals.
Key players such as Captain Schumacher Kuwali, Christopher Gototo, and Chikondi Mvula missed clear chances, lacking the necessary composure and marksmanship in front of the goal.
Kananji stated, “I don’t know where to start because we have done everything as a technical panel. We’re creating numerous chances, but the boys are failing to score. That’s why I am calling on the executive to meet with them and identify the root of the problem.”
Kananji added, “This result is disheartening since everyone expects us to collect points at home. However, we’re struggling to do so, making it even more challenging to secure points away.
“We need to take urgent action as the team’s performance is deteriorating. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic that we will improve.”
Despite the team’s difficulties, Richard Rapson of Blue Eagles FC was recognized for his efforts and voted as the Farmers Organization Limited player of the match.
Moyale Barracks FC’s coach, Nicolas Mhango, praised his team for their victory, acknowledging the challenges they faced due to fatigue.
He says, “Our plan to score an early goal didn’t work as my players were dealing with fatigue. Nonetheless, we capitalized on two clear chances and managed to secure the win.”
Blue Eagles FC’s next match is against Red Lions FC in Balaka at the Balaka Stadium next weekend.
This will be followed by hosting Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC, who recently played to a 0-0 draw against Chitipa United FC.
