Blantyre, January 2015: Following heavy rains that hit most parts of the country, the Central East African Railway Company has suspended its Limbe-Makhanga train.

CEAR Communications Officer Chisomo Mwamadi confirmed the development Thursday afternoon, stating the washing away of Nansadi Bridge has necessitated the closure.

“CEAR would like to inform the general public that the Makhanga Passenger train has been suspended due to wash away of the bridge as a result of heavy rains.

“This has made the line impassable but our engineers are working around the clock to repair the damage as soon as possible so that normal operation resumes,” explained Mwamadi.

CEAR, the only operator of the railway transport services in Malawi provides bedrock for national economic development through provision of a reliable and cheaper trade route for the landlocked Malawi.
