LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera is scheduled to preside over the commissioning of the Saulos Klaus Chilima Highway and Mzimba Street in Lilongwe city on Saturday, 13 September 2025.

The Office of the President and Cabinet confirmed in a statement that the event will take place in the morning, with a wide range of government officials, city planners, business leaders, and members of the public expected to attend.

The commissioning marks the completion of two key infrastructure projects that are part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize Lilongwe’s road network and improve urban mobility.

The Saulos Klaus Chilima Highway, named in honor of the late Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, is designed to serve as a major arterial route connecting commercial and residential areas, thereby easing traffic congestion and facilitating the smooth flow of goods and people across the capital.

Mzimba Street, which has undergone significant upgrades, will accommodate increased vehicular and pedestrian traffic, reflecting the government’s commitment to urban planning and sustainable infrastructure development.

The project aims to provide safer and faster travel for residents, enhance access to services and markets, and support local economic growth.

Government officials have emphasized that the commissioning of these projects underscores the administration’s focus on infrastructure as a driver of social and economic development.

Improved road networks are expected to reduce travel time, stimulate business activities, and create job opportunities, particularly in construction, transport, and commerce.

As Lilongwe continues to expand as the nation’s capital, the commissioning of these strategic roads is seen as a milestone in the city’s modernization agenda, demonstrating the government’s determination to address urban challenges while promoting efficiency and connectivity.

The public and media representatives are invited to witness the historic event, which will officially open the Saulos Klaus Chilima Highway and Mzimba Street to traffic, marking a significant step forward in Malawi’s infrastructure development journey.
