LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-After a week of speculations and hibernation, Malawi Vice president Saulos Chilima is out of cocoon to visit Tropical Cyclone Freddy survivors in Southern and estern regions on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
In a brief statement by Chilima’s publicist Pilirani Phiri indicates that his boss visit victims of Cyclone Freddy in Blantyre, starting with Blantyre Ndirande Safalawo – Matope camp.
“He is expected to be at the Matope camp at around 9:30 am straight from Lilongwe.
“Later he will visit St John’s primary school -T/A Lundu before proceeding to Zomba for the same purpose where he will visit five places/camps”, says Phiri.
This comes as some quarters of the society questioned Chilima’s absence when immediately Cyclone Freddy hit hard southern region districts.
Unconfirmed reports disclosed that immediately Cyclone Freddy hit, Chilima prepared to visit affected areas but he was stopped by Office of President and Cabinet (OPC) arguing that President Lazarus Chakwera was the one supposed to visit first.
But Minister of Information Moses Kumkuyu doubted authentication of such stoppage.
