Since the late Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima died and buried, many theories have come out of his legacy as administrator, economist and politician.
In this article, one of the social media commentators, Yamikani Nicholas Kachingwe, unpacks Chilima’s shortfalls politically that many of his followers need to understand.
Kachingwe writes,..
Sorry to say, Late Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima was not a bright leader. I’m not a politician neither do I belong to any political party nor affiliated with any in that regard.
I only share my observations in good faith with no intent of malice or ever attempt any trick of ridiculing personalities of beings in any manner or form.
On numerous occasions. I have at length shared suggestions to the late leader of UTM but unfortunately, the man ignored me.
Among many suggestions, two screenshots are attached for your reference.
In large numbers; Malawians of goodwill have been advising him to make a move out of alliance. He never did as long as all was rosy and honey for him and those around him. It was all home .
Today, the political baby he gave birth to has been orphaned and the baby is running helketer and Skelter with no direction just moving with the wind.
UTM coming out of Alliance right now is an emotional move not a political one. It has no grounded roots. Currently there is no upright, sound and strategic leadership at the helm. Everyone is in shock, stranded and depressed.
Late Chilima himself never announced any intention to quit or walk away from the Alliance. Remember Chihana of Aford when he was arrested and released. Immediately he walked out of the Alliance.
Late Chilima was arrested, released and exonerated. He never walked out.
He was abused, forsaken and looked down upon. He never hang the gloves.
He was suspended from office and reinstated. He never waved the white flag until his untimely and painful demise.
That type of person; how could he advise a party to walk out from an Alliance whom he endured and suffered a lot of mishaps to keep it intact?
It is strange, for UTM leaders today to utter such imaginary words of whispers from him; advising them to quit. I feel is too late, too soon.
Dead men tell no tales and it is unassuming for the living to discuss the dead but in this case, allow me to share my opinion:
Late Chilima was a brilliant administrator but a poor minded politician. He was not good with people and structure management politically.
He failed to hold one political rally since 2020. He failed to speak to his supporters and members when they needed him only when it suits him or is forced to by circumstances:
He spoke when he was arrested and when he was emphasizing about the memorandum of understanding of Tonse Alliance basitu. Just only two occasions imagine.
Everything we are seeing today in UTM is telling the cheap quality of a political leader he was.
This does not take away anything from him as far personal accomplishments are concerned. He was really a brilliant and blessed fellow in so many ways and areas but unfortunately politics was not best suited.
Charisma he had. Oration he was good at. Likeable personality no doubt.
Political manoeuvering and engineering -Big No. Very sad to say.
All in all. UTM has only one life pipeline. Either to convince Onjezani Kenani or Nkhalamba McBride to partner with Madam Mary Chilima to compete in the 2025 National Tripartite Election. Perhaps out of sympathy vote, they may pull a suprise.
They need a good person who is likeable and has many similarities and likeness to their late Leader. Someone with a clean slate. Someone who can speak and people stop to listen.
Someone with a good track record. A new face on the political arena.
The worse thing is; UTM will need over a Trillion Malawi Kwacha to run a successful political campaign. Am not sure how they will raise funds and how will they convince people to donate.
Currently, who is there that can hold a fundraising event and kill a 100 Million Malawi Kwacha in hours?
Anyways.
Osakwiya, Osadanane ine ndilibe bwana wa ndale komaso sindidya ndale.
Awa ndi maganizo anga chabe, sikuti ine ndi wanzeru kapena odziwa zonse koma ndimene ndikuwonela pankhani imeneyi.
