LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The DPP/UDF alliance cadets and young democrats including mercenary social media wannabe influencer Yamikani Kachingwe have gone on an onslaught, attacking and twisting Vice President Saulos Chilima’s COVID-19 message.
The attackers, seemingly on payroll, are misleading the public that Chilima told people at the Likuni mega rally in the capital Lilongwe that they should be hugging each other because there is no COVID-19 in Malawi.
“This is a lie. Pure lie. Just ignore it. I understand them they are desperate and left confused that the alliance is progressing well in unity despite its diversity. That picture of SKC, Dr. Usi and Mr. Mia is too much for the DPP/UDF alliance to stomach,” said a UTM official in quick WhatsApp response.
As if to corroborate this, many social media users including professional journalists have been backing Chilima that he never said what the DPP/UDF alliance is twisting.
In his speech, Chilima urged people to vote in large numbers, guard their vote so that after victory they parade and hug each other “hoping that by that time there will be no COVID-19.”
However, the opponents have quickly twisted this in which many believe is the surprise attendance that Chilima commanded at Likuni Boys Secondary School ground in Lilongwe on Sunday.
The rally was one of the most heavily attended rallies that SKC, as Chilima is fondly known, has ever addressed.
Chllima was scheduled to accompany MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is the alliance presidential candidate but failed to do so as he had just buried his mother in law a day earlier.
The rally itself was full of unity on display with Chilima, MCP Vice President Sidik Mia and UTM Vice President Dr. Michael Usi all taking to speak highly of each other for the humility that each one had to make to make the alliance materialise.
“Some people have been hailing for the decision I made to save Malawi but the right people to hail are Mr. Mia and Dr. Usi. If these people were not ready to sacrifice their positions, this alliance wouldn’t have materialised,” said Chilima attracts applause from the thousands of people that attended.
Malawi goes to the polls on July 2 and so far the main competitors the UTM/MCP alliance and DPP/UDF alliance are on the campaign trail criss crossing the country.
So far all eyes are on the DPP/UDF alliance presidential candidate President Peter Mutharika as he is yet to hit the road and hasn’t into the northern region for one year and 25 days so far.
This is funny. That crowd was small for an alliance of 15 political parties.
