Classic National Education Standards bring Hope of reducing illiteracy levels in Malawi

MaraviPost iReport: In a bid to ensure that every student across the country is getting the best possible education, government has expressed hope in National Education Standard (NES) program in Malawi that it will reduce the illiteracy levels.

Minister for Education Science and Technology, Emmanuel Fabiano made the revelations during the launch of National Education Standards and MoEST Service Charter on Wednesday at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.

 

“Raising Education standards in Malawi for many years has been struggle, mainly to help student achieve their full potential through education. For instance, it become a hiccup to align student learning by the end of secondary school cycle to ensure student success, increased educational attainment, and adequate preparation for demands of the competitive workplace and the global economy”, he said.

He expressed hope and sincere touch that the benchmark standard will provide an accessible roadmap for schools, teachers, parents and students, with clear and realistic goals.

“Citing the standards will, therefore, support the achievement of the National Education Sector Plan (NESP) goals which are access and equity, quality and relevance, governance and management which are in line with the provision of the Education Act 2013”, lamented Fabiano.

Principal Secretary for Education Lonely Magaleta in her sentiments before the launch briefed the media that recruiting the professional teachers is among the challenges the ministry is passing through hence fruiting poor-low education standards.

“Time has come to break the silence to fight illiteracy and malpractices of illegal admissions of the student in government and private schools. To curb the problem in the ministry, teachers and other authorities need to be well equipped with high Education training standards”, said Magaleta.

The ministry of Education is a key sector to development of any country so as of Malawi. Therefore, the Iron curtain between the ministry and University Graduates who are yet to be posted in various schools by the government to start their duties.
