In its coverage of the missing Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777, CNN has already had experts on to explain black holes and zombie planes. Today, as searches of the Indian Ocean turn up only trash unrelated to the plane, CNN went straight to the garbage man for an expert opinion.
Cable news’ wall-to-wall coverage of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has made Mary Schiavo a former Inspector General of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) to become a household name.
CNN which has seen its fortunes rise has clung to the story making the discovery of each debri item found in the sea as a ‘breaking news item’.
The excessive coverage has seen its fair of critics. SNL decided to mock CNN’s incessant MH370 coverage with a joke infomercial for a pregnancy test that provides far too much information and no actual news.
Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly acknowledged he was not a genius, but it was obvious what happened to Flight MH370 and his cable news rivals exploited the story to manipulate viewership.
This morning CNN is hyping reports that an “object of interest” in the search for missing Flight MH370 was recovered from the Australian coast.
The Malaysia’s acting transport minister Hishammuddin Hussein said his country has not yet received any photos from Australia, and that so far, all of the objects found in the search have not been related to the missing plane.

And — lo and behold! — the psychic had information regarding missing Flight 370.
