LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Former National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director Nicholas Dausi has warned President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance government to tread carefully in welcoming military support from neighbouring countries.
Dausi who is also opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator for Mwanza Central legislator made the remarks in parliament, on Monday, March 27, 2023 .
The lawmaker observation comes amid presence of military personnel from Mozambique and Tanzania for rescue missions in the country due to Tropical Cyclone Freddy impact that hit hard southern region’s districts.
While acknowledging that Malawi needs help, the legislator says boundaries should be set to avoid exposing military strengths and secrets.
He fears that rescue efforts could turn into a spy mission.
However, Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda downplays the fears, saying all is well.
