#Cyclone Freddy response: Malawi football coaches body in fundraise drive

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The National Football Coaches Association of Malawi (NFCA) has embarked in fundraising towards Cyclone Freddy victims.

The Association has organized football matches involving the runners up of 2022 TNM Super League Blue Eagles FC, Kamuzu Barracks FC and Civil Service United FC Scheduled to take place at Champions and Aubrey Dimba grounds in Mponela and Kapiri-Mchinji respectively on 1st and 2nd April 2023.

The first match will take place at Champions ground in Dowa, Mponela between Kamuzu Barracks FC and Blue Eagles FC with the second game being played at Aubrey Dimba ground between Kamuzu Barracks FC and Civil Service United FC.

NFCA chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni revealed this during the press briefing which the committee conducted on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at POWERTEX Limited Corporate Offices in Area 47, Lilongwe.

Nankhuni disclosed that the committee came up with the initiative to reach out to their two members Enos Chatama Bullets Reserve FC coach and McDonald Nginde Mtetemera whose houses and properties were washed away during Cyclone Freddy in the Southern Region.

As per Nankhuni, the committee has budgeted MK1.2 million for the event which will carter for transport and food for the teams and officials.

He then thanked other stakeholders and individuals such as Powertex Corporate Limited, SULOM, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Rashid Mtelela FAM executive committee member for the support they have rendered.

Nkunika also hailed teams that have accepted to participate in the fundraising, Blue Eagles FC, kamuzu Barracks FC and Civil Service United FC.

Civil Service United FC Vice Chairperson Davie Chirwa said as per club’s perspective are also concerned with the impact the tropical Cyclone Freddy has brought hence acceptance to participate in the fundraising.

“Looking at the huge relationship which is there between clubs and National Coaches of Malawi, as every time they hold their activities, we send our technical staff for upgrading hence to support them during this event. The matches will also help us fine tuning our squad ahead of TNM Super League season kick off”, Chirwa said.
