DPP counseled against infighting

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The country’s political commentator has advised members of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to stay away from infighting if the Party is to enjoy the unity it has had.

A University of Malawi’s Chancellor College based political analyst, Dr. Mustafa Hussein had passed his counsel to DPP following the remarks made by the Party’s President, who is the Head of State, Professor Peter Muthalika, on his return from London, United Kingdom (UK) where he went to attend to UK- Africa summit.

“Any divisions within the Party this time around will be to the disadvantage because it will undermine the strength or weaken the party. And they need unity to strengthen themselves and forge ahead as a unit and as a party,” said Hussein.

On his arrival from the UK trip on Sunday, Muthalika minced no words but to speak against leadership battles which have reportedly surfaced in the self acclaimed mighty DPP.

Muthalika advised the top officials and other followers of the party who went to welcome him at the airport to belong together as a family until such a time when the Party will legitimately go to a convention where his successor will be chosen.

However, DPP’s Spokesperson, Nicholas Dausi and Secretary General for the Party, Gelzedar Jeffrey, have refused the reports that the Party’s centre can no longer hold, saying they still enjoys enormous unity and strength.

Apparently, reports have it that there are three factions in the party: one canvassing for the party’s Vice President for Southern Region, Kondwani Namkhumwa, another one rallying behind Bright Msaka, who is the party’s Vice President for Eastern Region, while another group teams up for Everton Chimulirenji, who is the current Vice President for the country
