BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has clarified that Kenneth Bwanali, who wrote a letter questioning the absence of party leader Peter Mutharika at campaign rallies, is not a member of the party.
DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba told Zodiak Online that he believes Bwanali’s claims may have been influenced by other political parties intending to embarrass the former national leader.
Namalomba reassured party supporters not to worry about Peter Mutharika’s absence from campaign rallies, emphasizing that the party is fully aware of its strategy and actions.
However, Bwanali, who claims to be an involved member of the party, stated that no one sent him to make these allegations, but he expressed concern that such reports could negatively affect the party’s performance in the upcoming elections.
Political analyst George Phiri has advised DPP senior officials to carefully consider and address these concerns to prevent potential internal and public misperceptions.
Concluding Analysis
The controversy highlights the sensitivity of party communications and the impact of rumors on public perception during election periods.
DPP’s swift response underscores the importance of controlling the narrative and maintaining party cohesion to avoid voter confusion or doubt.
While Peter Mutharika’s supporters may remain confident in his leadership, the party must manage misinformation carefully to safeguard its reputation and ensure smooth campaign operations.
If addressed effectively, the party can turn this incident into a demonstration of disciplined internal communication and strategic electoral management.
