BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-All was set for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Party (UDF) joint rally at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre on Sunday, December 19, 2021.
This was the first political rally after the former ruling party lost the 2020 June 23 Fresh Presidential Election.
DPP President Peter Mutharika and his running mate Atupele Muluzi were expected to speak during the rally and people gathered in their largest numbers and nothing could stop them.
Former President Mutharika warned Tonse Alliance government that the DPP would win the 2025 Presidential elections.
He said the DPP was still intact and members knew that DPP leadership was better placed in running the affairs of government.
Mutharika repeated his stand that he was robbed of his government in 2020. He said DPP-UDF would bounce back stronger in the 2025 election.
He said that DPP-UDF partnership was stronger, indicating that they may in future become one party.
Mutharika claimed government had earmarked individuals from one tribe for arrests.
“You know the tribe, I come from that tribe. I am asking the pastor to stop such arrests,” Mutharika said.
Mutharika said he was surprised with silence from the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) when Malawians were suffering.
He called for Lazarus Chakwera to reshuffle his cabinet, come up with an economic recovery plan, reduce the number of his political advisors and stop unnecessary travels.
It rained heavily at Njamba Freedom Park but people remained unmoved as the rally came to an end.
Also in attendance were the presidential aspirants except one (Kondwani Nankhumwa) who did not show up. “This should not have been the case”, said Mutharika.
