Dr. Jolly Ntaba is now Malawi Media Council’s new board chair

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The elective Media Council of Malawi (MCM) General Assembly on Friday, January 12, 2024, voted veteran journalist Dr. Jolly Maxwell Ntaba as MCM board chairperson.

Dr. Ntaba who went unopposed during the elective Indaba in the capital capital Lilongwe replaces Wisdom Chimgwede as MCM board chair.

In a brief statement signed by MCM Executive Director Moses Kaufa says, “Dr.Ntaba joins MCM with the belief that through collaborative efforts, the media can elevate the standards of journalism and fortify the fabric of the industry in Malawi”.

Reads part of the statement, ” Media Council of Malawi (MCM) would like to inform its stakeholders that it has a new Board Chairperson, Dr. Jolly Maxwell Ntaba. Dr Ntaba was officially elected at the Elective General Assembly that took place at Crossroads Hotel on Friday, 12th January 2024.

“The General Assembly is the supreme decision-making body, and it is composed of all registered and paid-up members of MCM. The main agenda of the Elective General Assembly was to elect a new Board of Trustees, as well as to review and adopt the MCM reports and recommendations submitted by the outgoing Board of Trustees”.

Adds Kaufa, “The new MCM Board Chairperson, Dr. Jolly Ntaba is a veteran journalist, currently a Lecturer of Media Studies at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), and a Media Consultant. Dr. Jolly Ntaba takes over from Mr. Wisdom Nelson Chimgwede, who took the leadership of MCM since its resuscitation in 2020.

“He joins MCM with the belief that through collaborative efforts, the media can elevate the standards of journalism and fortify the fabric of the industry in Malawi. We wish Dr. Jolly Ntaba all the best as he takes up the responsibility of steering a media self-regulation system that can overcome challenges and harness opportunities for the betterment of the media industry”.

Ntaba is expected to chair MCM for the next three years.
