LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-FDH Bank Plc has reinstated its Senior Manager responsible for Corporate and Institutional Banking, Rodrick V. Mhango the bank fired some years ago over suspected dishonest conduct.

Mhango was dismissed from employment in 2019 over an unfinished transaction he initiated in favour of a client who was a senior Cabinet minister in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration.

The former minister had apparently approached Mhango to initiate the transaction on a Friday, but before it could succeed, the client had traveled to attend to an emergency in Mzuzu where former President Peter Muntharika was also in attendance.

This rendered the transaction open and hanging for some few days. Upon seeing the open and hanging transaction, the bank managers suspected that Mhango might have initiated the transaction with a fraudulent mind.

He was summarily dismissed him despite the client writing the bank to explain and clarify the circumstances that led to the hanging transaction.

Dissatisfied, Mhango took the matter to Industrial Relations Court. However, the bank opted to have the matter settled out of court and upon a review of the case, FDH Bank Plc reversed its decision and recalled him to work.

Reacting to the news, Mhango said he felt relieved that he is finally cleared of the wrongdoing.

He said the dismissal damaged professional reputation besides causing psychological trauma to him.

“Banking sector is small and very sensitive. Any slight mistake you make can cost you future opportunities and that is why I was so worried with the dismissal that came without me committing any crime in the course of my work,” narrated Mhango.
