In the aftermath of Saturday’s attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, First Lady Jill Biden reached out to former First Lady Melania Trump. NBC News was the first to report the conversation, which took place on Sunday afternoon. Details of their discussion have not been fully disclosed, but the communication was confirmed by Fox News.

Melania Trump expressed her profound shock and gratitude in a statement released earlier Sunday. “When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of a devastating change,” she said. “I am grateful to the brave Secret Service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband.”
President Biden had previously spoken with Donald Trump on Saturday night following the incident, according to a White House spokesperson. Trump, who suffered injuries to his ear and had blood on his face, was discharged from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh late that night.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump described his conversation with President Biden as “fine” and “very nice.”
On Sunday night, President Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office, urging Americans to “take a step back” and reduce political tensions. “My fellow Americans, I want to speak to you tonight about the need for us to lower the temperature in our politics,” Biden said. “Do remember, while we may disagree, we are not enemies. We’re neighbors, we’re friends, coworkers, citizens, and most importantly, we are fellow Americans. We must stand together.”
The attempted assassination has prompted calls for unity and a reevaluation of political rhetoric, highlighting the need for a more civil discourse in American politics.
