Former Blue Eagles shot-stopper Namate dies

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Blue Eagles Football Club has announced the passing of their former goalkeeper from the early 1980s, Peatry Namate.

According to the club’s statement, Namate passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital after a short illness.

Until his death, he was an Inspector in the Malawi Police Service (MPS), stationed at Chapima Police Unit under Blantyre Police Station.

The body of the former Eagle, Namate, will be laid to rest at his home village, Mmangulu, under Traditional Authority Msanama in Machinga, on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Namate played alongside other Blue Eagles legends, including Charles Juma, Malizani Maere, Aubrey Gama, Grey Chimphepo, and Wilson Chidati.

He competed for the Blue Eagles’ goalkeeping position with Keston Tiwale, Simeon Kwizombe, and Godridge Dzinkambani, all of whom have since passed away.

Reacting to Namate’s death, retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Charles Juma, popularly known as “Mr. Goals,” described him as a disciplined and exceptional goalkeeper.

“The late Namate was a key and dedicated player for Blue Eagles FC. He used to save penalties in crucial matches. We will miss him,” mourned Juma.
