In a bid to address the growing concern of male suicide in Malawi, mental health activist Flora Sewa of Blossom’s Mind Therapy has launched a free mental health counselling initiative targeting men across the country.
The initiative, which kicks off today, aims to provide support and guidance to 100 men from secondary schools, universities, and online platforms.
Sewa expressed concern over the alarming rate of male suicides in Malawi, with over 125 cases reported this year alone, according to police statistics.

She emphasized the need for men to have access to mental health support and resources to help them cope with challenges and stressors.
The initiative is designed to provide a safe and confidential space for men to share their concerns and receive counselling and support.
Sewa hopes that this initiative will help to reduce the number of male suicides in Malawi and promote mental well-being among men.
This noble initiative is a welcome move, and it is hoped that it will make a positive impact on the lives of many men in Malawi.
By providing free mental health counselling, Sewa is helping to break down the stigma associated with mental health issues and encouraging men to seek help when they need it.
The initiative is also a testament to Sewa’s commitment to promoting mental health awareness and support in Malawi.
As a mental health activist, Sewa has been working tirelessly to raise awareness about mental health issues and provide support to those in need.
This initiative is a much-needed intervention, and it is hoped that it will inspire other organizations and individuals to take action in supporting mental health initiatives in Malawi.
