The battle for points in the TNM Super League will continue this weekend. Unlike last weekend where all the title contenders (Moyale Barracks, Big Bullets, Blue Eagles) were given little chances to widen the gap, this weekend fixtures seem to favour the Kaning’ina soldiers.
Last week all the top three title contenders had tricky fixtures. Moyale were held to 1-all draw in Mzuzu by the unpredictable Azam Tigers while Bullets’ hopes of going top with 39 points were shattered by Silver Strikers who held the Peoples Team to 2-all draw on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium.
Blue Eagles were whacked 1-0 by Mighty Wanderers before beating Blantyre United on Sunday.
The results saw the Eagles, Bullets and Moyale tie at 37 points with the Lilongwe based Police men topping the race on goal aggregate.
However, this week, Moyale have all the chances to take over the driving seat. They are playing against rookies Karonga United at Mzuzu Stadium. Looking at the way Karonga is performing, Moyale stand a better chance to score more goals so as to have a better goal aggregate.
But if Eagles will beat Epac, they will obviously continue leading the log table on goal aggregate. Moyale are three goals adrift the league leaders and if both of them emerge victorious this weekend, Moyale have slender chances to go top because they will have to score more than four goals (assuming Blue Eagles have won with 1 goal). But Epac is always stubborn and plucky when playing against big sides and that gives Moyale an upper hand this weekend since they are only title contenders facing a small side.
Bullets will have a tough game at the Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday against their traditional arch rivals Mighty Wanderers. Wanderers will not allow conceding a fifth humiliation in a row to Bullets and they are likely to go into the pitch with vengeance spirit.
Bullets are in form but they have a problem of scoring goals. Their striking force lacks a killer punch and if the team they are playing against scores goals, they normally concede draw despite displaying excellent football.
Of-course they (Bullets) stand a chance to win the game but topping the league will require them to score more goals, a thing which is very difficult for them. In fact, they have very slim chances to go top even if they beat Wanderers tomorrow.
Surely, the weekend fixtures give the title contenders no room for widening the gap but Moyale have more chances to reclaim the driving seat which they lost to Blue Eagles last weekend.
