LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Former President and People’s Party leader Dr. Joyce Banda on Friday June 12, 2020 attended a High Level Tea party and braii aimed at raising more funds for Tonse Alliance women’s campaign.
Women from all political parties in Tonse Alliance converged in Lilongwe at Mosaic, Area 43.
The high level tea party and braii was also attended by Speaker of the national assembly Catherine Gotani Hara, Mama Tamanda C Kadzamira, as well as members of parliament.
Members of women’s league from all political parties, well wishers and some members were in attendance too.
The fundraising event was organised in a quest to raise funds for born free and women’s league of all political parties in the Tonse Alliance as count down to polling day draws closer.
The Women groups will embark on door to door campaign using the funds raised during the event.
The event was expected to raise MK10million.
Speaking at the function, Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara urged all women in all parties in Tonse Alliance to work hard and secure the much needed vote.
Gotani Hara said there is unity in strength and called upon all women to unite for a common purpose.
The Former Malawi President Dr Joyce Banda said women in the country have a great role to play in ensuring victory ahead of June 23 presidential poll.
She called upon women leaders and party members to take a leading role in securing the vote.
Dr. Banda encouraged women to count on smiles they bring on other people’s lives. She said women in the country have potential to develop to the fullest.
She spoke to women on lessons drawn from personal life and development.
