BLANTYRE (MaraPost)–Police in Malawi’s central district of Kasungu are keeping in custody, John Mvano of Chimwendo village, Traditional Authority Chakhaza in Dowa for allegedly raping and strangling to death a 28 year-old woman.
The incident happened on March 1, 2014 when the suspect went to the deceased’s house at around 9pm after noticing that her husband was not there. He broke into the house and grabbed the victim, according to Kasungu Publicist Burton Matthew.
However, the deceased, Malita Phiri managed to escape into a near maize garden where the suspect followed her and he caught and raped her, and later strangled her to death.
Phiri’s body was found by neighbours and postmortem showed that she died due to strangulation.
Suspect Mvano will appear before the court soon, according to Mathewe.
