LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Lilongwe Prison Spouses and female officers recently donated essential assorted items worth over MK900,000 to the female, male children, and postnatal wards at the Dowa district hospital.
The donation, which included sugar, soap, bread, sobo, soya pieces, and other necessities, aims to assist those in need and alleviate some of the challenges faced by patients and hospital staff.
Ellen Kaunda, the team leader, expressed that the group has a tradition of engaging in charitable activities in Lilongwe annually.
“This time we decided to extend our reach to the Dowa district hospital to offer a helping hand to the community,” Kaunda said.
She highlighted that this philanthropic endeavor was part of their efforts to mark Malawi’s 60th independence anniversary and uphold a spirit of unity and compassion.
Hanifa Mayenda, a Nursing Officer at Dowa District Hospital, conveyed her gratitude to the group for their thoughtful donation.
She also encouraged others to follow suit and support the facility and its patients, underscoring the importance of collective efforts in making a positive impact on the well-being of the community.
Pamela Mamu, one of the beneficiaries of the donation, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the group’s kindness, emphasizing that the donated items would significantly improve the living standards of patients and their caregivers at the hospital.
“The donation will sustain our living standard as we care for our sick relatives at the hospital,” Mamu said.
Before the donation handover, a ceremonial event took place, featuring a message from the scriptures, particularly from Jeremiah 17:14, encouraging individuals to seek divine intervention and acknowledge the sovereignty of God.
The function was also inspired by additional verses from Exodus 23:25, promoting faith, hope, and solidarity in times of adversity.
