LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Ministry of Health has registered 32 measles cases in Lilongwe particularly Area 36 at Zamkutu village and other surrounding villages alongside by pass road.
In a statement signed by the Secretary for Health, Samson Mndolo stated that blood samples from nine suspected cases were tested and confirmed positive.
Mndolo said most of the affected individuals are children under the age of 15 years and many were proven to be those who were not vaccinated because of religious belief and cultural beliefs.
He said following the new cases the ministry will embark on supplementary vaccination in the area and the surroundings.
Mdolo adds that measles is a contagious viral disease that poses significant health risks, especially to children its symptoms encompass high fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, sore throats, and a distinctive rash of small red spots.
