The people of Mangamba in Machinga Central Constituency turned out in large numbers to welcome the Vice-President of the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the Eastern Region, Bright Msaka, in a massive show of support for the DPP/United Democratic Front (UDF) Alliance.
Coming at a time when the campaign has entered its last round ahead of a fresh presidential election on Tuesday, the 23rd of June, the rally in Machinga Central Constituency on Thursday was a seal of approval for the partnership of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and his running mate Atupele Muluzi.
In his address to the gathering, Msaka said the partnership of DPP and UDF has been approved nationwide, but it is in the Eastern Region that the support for the alliance is overwhelming.
He said all along the two parties have been stepping on each other’s toes in the region but that is no longer the case as DPP and UDF are now walking side by side in the political space.
Msaka, who is also Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, has been to several constituencies in the region campaigning for the re-election of Professor Mutharika.
He said as a caring government, the APM administration has mobilized equipment for the construction of the Nsanama-Nayuchi Road, a key rural corridor for agricultural produce and gateway to the boarder with Mozambique.
The minister said the reduction of the price of subsidized fertilizer to K5, 000 and introduction of a medical scheme for traditional chiefs is part of APM’s strategy to improve the wellbeing of the people across the country.
As a political grouping that promoted the violent mass protests across Malawi, Msaka said Malawi Congress Party and its partners are a major threat to everything that democracy stands for.
“For sustainable development, peace and tranquility to continue prevailing, people should vote for Professor Mutharika,” Msaka said.
Member of Parliament for Machinga Central, Samuel Malume Bokosi, said Tuesday’s presidential election is like no other election before, hence everyone must come out and take part to defend the administration of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
“We must all stand up and defend our Government,” said Bokosi.
United Democratic Front (UDF) Organising Secretary for the Eastern Region, Mr. Machika, commended President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for deciding to strike a political alliance with the UDF.
“This is what the supporters of the two parties have always wanted, and we are happy that it has come to pass,” said Machika.
