BLANTYRE (MaraviPost)–The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday rearrested Haster Kapita Kabvina, an Accountant and Systems Administrator at the Department of Accountant General for abuse of office.
Kabvina will be charged with two counts of abuse of Public Office contrary to Section 25 B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act, according to ACB spokesperson Egrita Ndala.
He was first arrested in 2011.
“The second arrest was necessary after the Bureau investigations had uncovered more offences which necessitated the need to interview him again under caution,” said Ndala in a statement made available MaraviPost Tuesday.
Ndala said on October 5, 2011, the Bureau received a complaint alleging that public servants were making huge payments to companies owned by themselves or their colleagues for services not offered to Malawi Government.
The Bureau, according to the statement, instituted investigations into the matter and it was established that payments were being made to companies of public officers without offering Government any service.
