Malawi Junior Flames beat Kuwait in Turkey

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi National Football Team Under 23 on Thursday, 24th March,2022 scored two goals to nil past Kuwait in Antalya Africa Cup in a game played at Kremlin Center in Turkey.

Junior flames scored through Innocent Shema at 62 nd upon receiving the ball from a well taken free kick by uprising Nyasa Big Bullets FC attacker Patrick Mwaungulu.

Chifundo Mphasi scored the second in the dying minutes at 90th minute plus 3 minutes of the added time,Alick Lungu was the architect.

Malawi team did not display beautiful football as many expected despite scoring those two goals.

Malawi technical panel led by Mario Marinica Mariana on goals started Chancy Mtete,in the line of defence they trusted the services of Charles Petro who is captaining the team,Fanizo Mwansambo, and Blessings Mpokera while at the engine room,Innocent Shema,Tatenda M’balaka,Yamikani Chaima and Chawanangwa Gumbo were trusted with the task while Mphatso Kamanga and Charles Gototo were given the roles of poaching goals. First half did not produce any goals.

After noticing some shortfalls, Marinica made few changes to keep the live of the match, Mphatso Kamanga,Chawanangwa Gumbo,Tatenda M’Balaka and Fanizo Mwansambo were replaced by Emanuel Saviel,Kelvin Banda,Alick Lungu and Lloyd Aaron.

Marinica said it was fantastic performance from the boys taking into consideration that they traveled long distances and that they hard little time to prepare for the tournament.

He added the boys are easily adopting to his philosophy.He has urged the boys to keep on.

“It was very good to get a win against a good side Kuwait who have gone undefeated in seven matches,we created many chances like six which five went on target so we could score more”, Marinica explained.

Next on the menu for Malawi is Togo on March 28, 2022 but before that,the only under 20 players will take on Jordan Under 20 on March 26.

Turkey invited Malawi to the tournament while catering for other expenses.
