LILONGWE-(Maravipost)-After dominating accolades in different categories in Malawi over the years, football commentator Bright Buju Kanyama has now taken his talent to the regional stage after earning his first-ever nomination for the AUSC Region 5 Sports Journalist of the Year award in Angola.
The celebrated commentator, popularly known as BBK, finished third in the highly competitive category at the Regional Africa Sports Awards organised by the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5.
Zimbabwean journalist Langton Nyakwenda claimed the top award, while Namibia’s Limba Mupetami finished second ahead of Kanyama.
For Kanyama, the recognition marks another milestone in a career that has steadily grown from local admiration to regional recognition.
Speaking after the awards ceremony, the Zodiak Broadcasting Station commentator described the achievement as a proud moment, saying making it into the top three in Southern Africa has inspired him to work even harder.
“This is a huge achievement for me. Being nominated at such a level and finishing among the top three sports journalists in the region is something special,” said Kanyama.
“Even though I did not win the ultimate prize, the nomination alone is a massive motivation. It shows that the work we are doing is being recognised beyond Malawi, and that pushes me to aim even higher.”
Kanyama also thanked the Malawi Government, through the Malawi National Council of Sports, for facilitating his trip to Angola, which he described as his first experience in the country.
Known for his energetic football commentary and deep passion for the game, BBK has become one of Malawi’s most recognisable sports broadcasters.
He is also the brother of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) presenter and football commentator Gerald Gospel Kanyama.
