BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)—Residents in Ndirande township responded to an early morning blaze on Friday, which apart from destroying three furniture shops, claimed the life of a man who is yet to be identified.
Reports indicate that the deceased was sleeping in one of the burnt shops, located along the Ndirande-Chinseu road in Blantyre, at the time of the incident.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established but some eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident told The Nation newspaper that the fire was caused by a lit candle.
Apart from the deceased’s shop, the fire also spread to two other furniture shops, reducing them to ashes.
Meanwhile, Ndirande police have taken the body of the deceased to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for postmortem.
