BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)—Malawi Under-20 national team players Boston Kabango and Brighton Munthali have been spotted by the Democratic Republic of Congo top side TP Mazembe.
Munthali (goalkeeper) and Kabango (defender) were spotted by the DRC side when DR Congo Under-20 played Malawi in the Africa Youth Championship recently.
The two players were among the players who were rated highly by the Junior Flames mentor Ernest Mtawali and he even recommended them to the senior Flames.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda, who accompanied the junior Flames to Zambia, confirmed the development, saying the team’s officials approached him after the game against the Junior Chipolopolo boys.
“They approached me after the game and formally requested that they want the players. But I told them that since they are youth players and they are also attached, they need to follow the right channel,” Nyirenda said as quoted by the paper.
Munthali is a Surestream Academy product while Kabango plays for Azam Tigers.
Nyirenda also disclosed that Zambian clubs were also interested in Blue Eagles striker Schumaker Kuwali as well as midfielder Isaac Kaliati who plays for Azam Tigers but he advised the players to be patient because it’s too early for them and they can do better than playing in Zambia.
