LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Drama unfolded at the Main Tally Centre in Lilongwe on Tuesday as Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Sameer Suleman was forced to leave the premises.
Suleman, who is contesting for a parliamentary seat, had made his way into the results room to observe the proceedings.
According to eyewitnesses, he entered quietly and positioned himself among those following the tallying process.
However, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) swiftly intervened through its Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa.
Mwafulirwa informed Suleman that contesting candidates are not permitted inside the Main Tally Centre while results are being processed.
He emphasized that the space is reserved for accredited observers, party representatives, and officials managing the elections.
Following the directive, Suleman complied and left the room without further incident.
The ejection has sparked debate among political followers, with some questioning whether candidates should be barred from witnessing the process firsthand.
Others have defended MEC’s decision, saying the rules are clear and must be applied equally to all candidates.
For now, Suleman has left the centre, and the tallying process continues under tight security and observation.
