Dedza youth soccer authorities to award teams individuals; Soccer Saints U14

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Dedza Youth Football Committee will award the best teams and individuals in Mpira M’mudzi Mwathu Under 14 League (which was a pilot project) on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Dedza.

Confirming the development, General Secretary for the committee Crink Mahilas has said all is set for the committee in conjunction with Mpira M’mudzi Mwathu (MMM) to hold this awarding ceremony tomorrow.

According to Mahilas, the event will be held at Umbwi Secondary School ground in the district

He disclosed that on the same day Yamikani Academy who are the champions of the League and Soccer Saints (who finished second) will play a match to decorate the occasion.

“We had a very exciting season in 2019 and the competition was very high. We saw Yamikani Academy being crowned champions of the League with 48 points from 90 matches.

“Yamikani Academy from Njuchi Village are the inaugural winners of this prestigious trophy who will walk away with 100 thousands Malawi kwacha for being the champions while Soccer Saints who only trailed with three points will get seventy five thousands Malawi kwacha for finishing on position two,” he explained.

Chimango Munthali, Managing Director of Mpira M’mudzi Mwathu (MMM) said as sponsors, feel excited for having fulfilled their plans to help improve the game of football through these youth tournaments.

Munthali said, “We are so satisfied with how the League has been run. We have managed to achieve our main aims of the competitions which are to help develop coaches and administrators, help change the behaviors (especially of children), develop our football from the grass root level but with an incentive as we have started.

“This was our pilot project in Dedza and we feel there is great potential of nurturing great talent through these initiatives. We, as MMM operate withing Football Association of Malawi’s space and regulations of football activities therefore we saw it very important that we should award the best teams and individuals within a month space from the close of the League.”

MMM Director however highlighted that they have also identified some areas of improvement.

He said the institution has learnt a few things throughout the League and those are lessons they would like to adopt next season.

On this day, Mayamiko Masitala of Yamikani Academy who was named player of the tournament will also be officially awarded and given his prise money for the award.

Precious Masamba of Soccer Saints was the top goalscorer with 44 goals and will also be recognised on the day.

Airle Kings was voted as the most disciplined team while Chisomo academy was voted as the fair play team and will both get their prise money same day.

However, three players who won the player of the month during the League, namely; Madalitso Lloyd of Soccer Saints, Kennedy Maxwell of Airle Kings and Mayamiko Masitara of Yamikani Academy will get football boots on the day.

The ceremony will be graced by officials from Mpira M’mudzi Mwathu, Dedza District Council, as well as representatives from District Education Manager’s office, Dedza District Football Committee, and women football.
