In a thrilling encounter that left fans on the edge of their seats, the Malawi Flames’ journey in the 2025 Cosafa Cup came crashing down like a house of cards, courtesy of a 1-0 loss to Angola in their final Group B match. The defeat marked a bitter end to the Flames’ campaign, leaving supporters shell-shocked and yearning for more.

As the final whistle blew, the Flames’ players trudged off the pitch, their heads bowed in disappointment, their dreams of lifting the coveted trophy slipping through their fingers like sand. The team’s inability to find the back of the net in their last three games proved costly, with just a single point from three matches leaving them adrift at the bottom of the group.

Meanwhile, defending champions Angola proved too strong, qualifying for the next round as group leaders with an impressive seven points. Their clinical display against the Flames was a testament to their prowess, leaving no doubt about their status as one of the tournament favorites.

In the other match of the group, Namibia unleashed a ruthless assault on Lesotho, thrashing them 3-0 to finish second on five points. Lesotho, who had shown glimpses of brilliance earlier in the tournament, were left reeling from the defeat, finishing third with three points.

The Flames’ campaign had started on a low note, with a 1-0 loss to Lesotho in their opening match. Despite showing flashes of brilliance, they could only manage a goalless draw against Namibia in their second match, leaving them with an uphill task of progressing to the next round.

As the dust settles on the 2025 Cosafa Cup, the Flames will have to regroup and reflect on their campaign. While their performance may not have yielded the desired results, there were moments of brilliance that give fans hope for the future. With the right tweaks and adjustments, the team can bounce back stronger and more determined than ever.

The defeat may have been a bitter pill to swallow, but the Flames’ fans will hold on to the memories of their team’s spirited displays, knowing that their team gave it their all in pursuit of glory. As the team looks to the future, one thing is certain – the Flames will be back, and they will be hungrier than ever to lift the coveted trophy.

Final Group B standings:

  1. Angola – 7 points
  2. Namibia – 5 points
