LILONGWE (MaraPost)—Unconfirmed reports reaching MaraPost indicate that Malawi’s top most civil servant Ms. Hawa Ndilowe has resigned from her post as Government’s Chief Secretary. Ms. Hawa Ndilowe, tendered in her resignation to President Joyce Banda last night, Monday. President Banda is yet to respond to the ‘joker’ thrown by Ndilowe, her own appointee.
Ndilowe’s resignation follows a disagreement in opinion with President Joyce Banda where she ordered the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC) to close all government offices and send all civil servants on a two-week holiday in order to make some savings for the country. Report have it that Malawi government is broke and wants to send civil servants to a two week holiday so it can save some money to run government business.
It is reportedly said that both the Finance Minister Dr Maxwell Mkwezalamba and Chief Secretary Hawa Ndilowe have been unhappy with the president’s decision and continuous interference into the professionalism of Malawi’s civil service.
The Malawi Government is said to have run out of money to run government operations since almost all the country’s donor partners pulled out as a result of high levels of corruption, fraud and looting which is alleged to have been led by President Banda, her two sons, Roy and Geoffrey Kachale and her party’s inner circle.
This resignation if accepted by Malawi’s president will be the second biggest technical expert resignation in Mrs Joyce Banda’s 2-year reign.
On three occasions, Loti Dzonzi, the Malawi Police Inspector General resigned but on all those occasions, the President turned him down. It’s suspected Banda was not sure if her choice of new IG Nelson Bophani would be approved by the then opposition dominated Parliament.
