LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Red Cross, in collaboration with Farmers Organization Limited, donates cholera response equipments.
The donated items worth MK5 million including 20 litre tap backets, 10 litre tap backets of 60 litres each, 20 litre backets without tap, 10 litre backets without tap, 10 cartons of 140 grams soap, 13 spray bottles, 13 boxes of gumbots and 10 cartons of ORS.
Speaking after the donation, Red Cross Community Health Coordinator Francis Liati said that as the district continues to experience Cholera, they reached out to Farmers Organization Limited for support, and they responded positively.
Harry Saini, Branch Manager for Lilongwe, Farmers Organization Limited, stated that they chose to partner with Red Cross Malawi for the cholera response because of their expertise in disaster management.
Saini mentioned that they donated additional items to Nkhotakota School for the blind this year as part of the giving back program.
The director of health service, Dr. Wilson Ching’ani, acknowledges the Red Cross as one of their partners and acknowledges that the donation is timely, regardless of the zero registration of cholera this year.
Ching’ani stated that the items they have received are fast-moving items that aid in preventing the pandemic.
He pleaded with other organizations to follow the gesture of the Red Cross and Farmers Organization Limited.
According to him, the hospital experienced a severe cholera outbreak with more than 200 cases last time, but with donated items will reach out to the isolated population and use the items for prevention.
