Mukhito vows to transform Lilongwe City Center into a model constituency

In an exclusive interview with Robert Mukhori, shadow Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe City Center constituency, Peter Mukhito has declared his ambitious vision to transform the area into a model constituency.

He revealed that he has already spent considerable time engaging with chiefs and traditional leaders within the constituency.

Mukhito emphasized that his leadership style will be one of servant leadership, where he will prioritize the needs of the people over personal gain.

Among the key challenges he identified in the constituency is the persistent issue of hunger affecting many households.

He stated that his first priority once elected will be to improve health services in the area.

He also highlighted the urgent need for boarding facilities for girls, citing that their absence continues to affect female education.

Access to clean water is another pressing concern Mukhito aims to address for the well-being of the community.

He expressed his commitment to improving security in the area, ensuring that residents feel safe and protected.

Mukhito also underscored the importance of developing the road network and installing street lights to enhance mobility and safety.

He promised to push for the upgrading of roads within the constituency to modern standards.

Youth empowerment featured prominently in his vision, as he proposed organizing young people into groups for effective skills training and support.

Despite Lilongwe City Center being traditionally considered a stronghold of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Mukhito believes this perception is outdated.

“I have told people of the constituency to take me as a son of this area,” he said, stressing his deep connection with the local population.

He expressed concern that millions of people in the constituency are struggling to access food, while delays in receiving money from tobacco sales are worsening their plight.

According to Mukhito, many citizens no longer have personal budgets because the national economy is in disarray.

He further criticized the fertilizer subsidy program, claiming it has been a challenge ever since the MCP-led government assumed power in 2020.

Mukhito called on all residents to gather at Kauma for the official launch of his political campaign, which he said will be focused entirely on development.

He also disclosed that he has already begun initiating some development projects in the area, even before assuming office.

With this proactive approach, Mukhito hopes to earn the trust of the people and usher in a new era of progress for Lilongwe City Center.
