Mulhako wa Alhomwe ‘never received hard cash’ from NAC: A defense that is not necessary

1 Min Read

Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for Mulhako WA Lomwe Bright Mangulama was addressing the media in Blantyre in response to recent criticism from some civil society organizations who have been questing why the grouping received support from NAC during its annual festival held last October.

.
The role of NAC is to provide leadership and coordinate the national response to HIV and AIDS in Malawi. One of those responsibilities is to identify groups such as BEAM and Mulhako WA Alhomwe that are helping people with HIV/AIDS and give them resources.

It is surprising to then see all the indignation from civil society and other quarters that appear to be motivated by politics or need to embarrass Peter Mutharika and the DPP at every turn.

Peter Mutharika and his supporters should learn that democratic politics is a dirty game. They need to defend themselves forcefully when unwarranted accusations are being hurled at them.

Reports said NAC in the past had provided funding to the Joyce Banda foundations. If true there was nothing wrong with that as it is the Mandate of NAC and there is nothing wrong now.

Denials from Mulhako WA Alhomwe are not necessary if any help they received from NAC was directed towards helping the HIV/AIDS communities in Malawi. So stop this cowering from Western funded civil societies that are bent on seeing the failure of this government.

Mangulama said it was sad that certain quarters are politicizing and demonizing the noble work that Mulhako WA Alhomwe is doing in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the country.

According to Mangulama Mulhako WA Alhomwe never received hard cash from National Aids Commission but rather services that were provided during the festival.
