BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Neno has been named the poorest performing district in the recent released Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE ) and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE ) examination results.

According to the data, only 8.68% of candidates from the district managed to obtain grades A and B, making it the poorest-performing district in the country.

It is followed by Chiradzulu district which has 10.14 % performance score, while Nkhotakota is on third position with 11.68%.

Other districts that have recorded low performance include Balaka (11.98%), Mwanza (12.75%), Machinga (13.00%), Phalombe (13.56%), Mulanje (13.82%), Nsanje (13.90%), and Thyolo (14.11%).

Education stakeholders have since raised concerns over the persistent regional disparities in examination performance, urging government, parents, and communities to work together in addressing the underlying challenges.

On the other hand, analysts cite inadequate teaching resources, poverty, and lack of access to quality learning facilities as some of the factors contributing to poor performance in rural districts.
