As Malawi gears up for the highly anticipated tripartite elections on September 16, the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying voter awareness campaigns.
With just a few months left before the polls, NICE has engaged an extra gear to ensure that citizens are well-informed about the electoral process and the changes made to electoral laws.
Speaking to this Online publication, Gray Kalindekafe, Executive Director for NICE, emphasized the importance of civic education in empowering citizens to make informed decisions at the polls.
“It is crucial that we educate the masses about the changes to electoral laws, so they understand their rights and responsibilities as voters,” Kalindekafe said.
Kalindekafe also expressed concern about the spread of misinformation and disinformation, which he believes could negatively impact voters’ perception of the electoral process.
“We urge all stakeholders to desist from spreading false information, which can erode trust in the electoral process. Instead, we should focus on promoting accurate and reliable information to empower citizens,” he added.
