LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Leyman Panthers FC, a team from the area 49 Chipiku Premier Division league, delivered a commanding performance on Saturday as they defeated Dedza Young Soccer FC with a resounding score of 4-1 at the Kalambo ground.
This victory propelled them to the third position in Group A, accumulating 21 points from 13 games.
Panthers’ goal scorers included Austin Gerald, who netted a brace, Duncan Mwalirino, and Gift Jere.
Dedza Young Soccer’s Chikondi Isaac managed to salvage a consolation goal.
Atanazius Jabulani, the head coach for Leyman Panthers FC, expressed satisfaction with the triumph, citing that it provides a boost in morale.
The victory now places them in a favorable position to secure a spot within the top four teams from the group.
Jabulani stated, “Although we had several scoring opportunities but converted only a few into goals, I’m delighted with the win.
“This success will work in our favor as we prepare to face Santhe ADMARC FC in Aubrey Dimba on Sunday in Mchinji.”
In another match, Silver Strikers Reserve FC defeated Santhe ADMARC FC with a score of 2-0, strengthening their lead in Group B with 29 points from 13 games.
Lifton Gunde and Madalitso Maso contributed to the young Bankers’ success, showcasing their impressive form this season.
Support Battalion FC was awarded free points as Ekas Freight Wanderers FC failed to appear at the Support ground for the match.
This development propelled Support Battalion FC to the top position in Group A with 27 points from 13 games, displacing Mbabvi United FC, who have garnered 24 points from 13 games.
In group C, leaders Kawinga FC had a weekend of rest following their international friendly match against Kafue Celtic from Kafue, Zambia.
The match, which they won 2-0, bolstered their record to 28 points from 12 games.
However, an air of tension and pressure now engulfs the teams in the Chipiku Stores Premier Division league as they approach the conclusion of the preliminary round.
With just 1 or 2 games left, 12 teams from the three groups will proceed to the final phase.
Dwangwa United FC, Santhe ADMARC, Play Football Malawi, Ekas Freight Wanderers FC, Mkanda Youth FC, TN Stars FC, and Simbi FC have already been eliminated from qualifying, even if they secure victories in their remaining matches.
