Ernest Kaonga, President of the Private Schools Owners Association of Malawi (PRISAM), has called on the Malawian government to incorporate private school teachers into the training programs for the new curriculum. Kaonga’s request was made on Wednesday during his appearance before the Parliamentary Committee on Education, where he discussed strategies for improving the nation’s education sector.
Accompanied by Wycliffe Chimwendo, leader of the Independent Schools Association of Malawi (ISAMA), Kaonga underscored the need for private school educators to receive adequate training. He pointed out that many teachers in these schools are not yet fully equipped to implement the new curriculum effectively.
Kaonga also stressed the importance of regulating private schools, noting that some institutions operate despite having significant deficiencies. He reassured the committee of PRISAM’s commitment to supporting government efforts to ensure that only qualified schools are operational. This, he argued, would contribute to raising the overall quality of education in Malawi.
