LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-As time is slowly approaching to December when the country is anticipated to host African Union Region 5 Youth games, the local organizing Committee has launched the 100 day count down in Lilongwe on August 24, 2022.

Spicing up the event which took place at Bingu National Stadium, were the dancing competitions and quiz among others.

Chief Executive Officer of the Region 5 Youth games local organizing Committee, Emma Mabvumbe, said as a committee they are living no stone unturned in as far as preparations of these games are concerned.

She added they expect to present the games beyond expectations.

“We have gone far with preparations, the cooperation which is there with Private sectors,Ministry and other stakeholders is so overwhelming, just yesterday we unveiled our official Sponsor NBS Bank this means we are incorporating people who are ready to support us,other nationals are already in the country to support us,so everyone is linked up and we are equally ready to go”, she said.

Mabvumbe added that during the 100 days will look into the remaining areas to be tackled as well as holding activities while continuing with preparations.

“We will be supervising the infrastructure works that are taking place, making sure the equipment we have purchased arrives in the country before games during the 100 days and this will build confidence to everyone that we are ready to go”, says Mabvumbe.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Isaac Katopola, said government is committed and focused to host the Youth games and that the 100 day count down is the signal that Malawi is ready for the games.

“I’am delighted that we have finally launched the 100 day countdown to the Region 5 Youth games. This signifies that as a country we are committed in making sure that preparations are done in time and meet international standards required for the games”,

“We want to make sure that the facilities to host the games are finalised. You may note that apart from BNS which is ready, government is also constructing other facilities such as Indoor Griffin Saenda Sports complex and Aquatic Sports complex at Kamuzu Institute for Sports in the Capital, Lilongwe”, Kaputula said.

Over 10 countries are anticipated to participate in the Under 20 Region 5 Youth games slated for December 2 to 11 in the country and over 2150 people are expected to patronise.
