LISBON-(MaraviPost)-Portuguese football captain Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to his 23-year career with the national team.

According to Reuters, the 41-year-old forward made the announcement on November 5, 2026, confirming that he will end his international career after the November international break.

Ronaldo leaves the national team as Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer, having scored 146 goals in 234 appearances since making his senior debut in 2003.

During his remarkable international career, Ronaldo helped Portugal win the 2016 UEFA European Championship, the country’s first major international trophy.

He also guided the European nation to two UEFA Nations League titles, winning the competition in 2019 and 2025.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward represented Portugal at six FIFA World Cup tournaments, becoming one of the most decorated players in the country’s football history.

His international career has been defined by remarkable consistency, leadership and goalscoring records, making him a central figure in Portugal’s success over the past two decades.

Ronaldo’s retirement marks the end of a significant era for Portuguese football, with the forward having established himself as one of the greatest players to represent the country.

However, his decision to retire from international football does not mean an end to his professional playing career, as he is expected to continue featuring for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
