Vice President Saulosi Chilima proded Principal Secretaries and heads of constitutional bodies in the country to work hard towards improving lives of ordinary Malawians.
He made this remarks Yesterday when he opened the retreat in Mangochi for Principal Secretaries and heads of constitutional and Independent bodies.
Chilima challenged the top public servants that government and the people of Malawi have higher expectations, especially in the wake of challenges, like economic hardships.
“These challenges can be solved if all Malawians dedicate all their energies and time towards the improvement of the economy and move the people out of poverty,” said Chilima while calling on the principal secretaries to support the leadership of this country in these, “critical times,”.
He said the public service must transform into a professional, ethical, and productive and people centred.
On the current Public service reform, Chilima said the Commission which was instituted by President Mutharika has finished its work and will come up with recomendations for the President soon.
Chilima is chair of the commission with the following members Mr. Thom Mpinganjira, Mr. Khrishna Savjan, S.C, Mrs Seodi White, Mrs Evelyn Mwapasa and Reverend Matiya Nkhoma.
The reform recomendation will be presented to President Peter Mutharika the aim of which is to make the Malawi civil service competitive and improve service delivery to Malawians.
The annual retreat which started on Monday is expected to run for three days and the retreat will give a chance to heads of various ministries to reflect on how government has performed and also seeks to find solution to the problems affecting their departments.
