BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Suspected governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets on Tuesday, morning, April 14, 2020 are said to be manhandled after caught destroying Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) registration equipment in Blantyre.
Eye witness told the Maravi Post that DPP cadets led by its senior Mlotha who is also the party district governor carried very dangerous weapons including machetes and hammers.
The cadets firstly stormed Ndirande Hill Secondary School registration centre where they have destroyed all the equipment for MEC staff.
An eyewitness who had gone to register say the cadets arrived in 4×4 and 2 tonne unregistered vehicles and started harrassing people who are managing the registration.
“Why are you here? Don’t you know that the government ordered that there should be no registration due to corona virus? Pack your things and leave this place!” one of the cadets who was the leader of the group told the people he found at the centre.
The eyewitness said hell broke loose when one of the people who came to register went to surrounding houses and told the people what was happening at the centre.

The people mobilised themselves and went to the centre to fight the cadets, when they saw the crowd the cadets got into their vehicles and run away.
Reports further indicate that the cadets have also destroyed MEC equipment in four other centres namely Makata, Namalimwe, Matope and Nanjiriri.
During one of their briefings on the current Corona virus situation, one of the ministers in the committee said that registration of voters for the forthcoming presidential elections be halted.
Both Malawi Police and MEC officials are yet to make official statements on the matter.
