TNM Super League title race heats up as Bullets, Wanderers prepare for second round

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The race for the TNM Super League crown is intensifying as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and unbeaten leaders Mighty Mukuru Wanderers gear up for the crucial second round of the season.

Bullets head coach Peter Mponda has acknowledged the need to bolster his squad to keep pace with their rivals.

Speaking to the media after their final pre match fixture against Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium, Mponda revealed plans to bring in new signings and send some players on loan to gain valuable match experience.

“We want players to understand that every minute on the pitch counts,” Mponda said.

“Even those substituted after a few minutes should use it as motivation to work harder when given opportunities,”he added.

Currently, Bullets trail Wanderers by a single point in the standings but remain determined to maintain their title ambitions.

The club has already secured two mid-season signings Khumbo Banda from Dedza Dynamos and forward Bright Munthali, returning after leaving the club in 2022.

Despite lifting the Airtel Top 8 Cup recently, Mponda admits the victory came under pressure and insists fresh energy and squad depth will be vital moving forward.

Meanwhile, Wanderers head coach Bob Mpinganjira is focused solely on his team’s performances rather than worrying about their challengers.

The Nomads remain unbeaten this season, topping the league with 10 wins and four draws from 14 matches, scoring 23 goals and conceding just seven.

“We are not putting unnecessary pressure on the boys,” Mpinganjira told reporters.

“The key is to make them understand the importance of each game and stay focused,”he said

Wanderers’ upcoming fixture against in-form Civil Service United is seen as a critical test, but Mpinganjira is confident in his squad’s ability to rise to the challenge.

Wanderers, Silver crash over gate revenue

By Lusekero Mhango

Be Forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers have given contrasting views to the MK40.2 million gross revenue from their Fisd Challenge Cup final at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) marketing and commercial director Limbani Matola on Monday said after deducting expenses amounting to MK6.4 million,  they were left with a net revenue of MK33.8 million.

He said out of this amount, each team went home with MK8.4 million, representing 25 percent of net revenue.

Bingu National Stadium also got the same amount as ground levy.

FAM got MK6.7 million while Malawi National Council of Sports got MK1.6 million, representing 20 percent and five percent respectively

But while Silver general secretary Lawrence Yobe expressed satisfaction with the revenue, on the other hand Nomads chairperson Gift Mkandawire said the revenue did not correspond with the big turnout

“We are not very happy because we were anticipating not less than MK50 million and it shows that there is still a lot of loopholes.

“Nevertheless, it was something positive compared to the recent past, but there is room for improvement.”

On his part, Matola said the football governing body is generally satisfied with the revenue realised “and so are all our stakeholders”.

He said: “Overall, there was good coordination among all service providers; police, stewards, Maximum Security  Company which helped to consolidate security in all access areas.

The Nomads won the cup after coming from a goal down in the first half to emerge 3-2 winners and secure their 2nd fisd cup triumph
