KARONGA(MaraviPost)–After comforting over 1000 people affected by floods at Kakoma in Malawi’s border district of Karonga on Friday, President Peter Mutharika proceeded to declare Karonga-Chitipa road as “Bingu high way” in honoring former Malawi President late  Bingu Wa Mutharika who is credited for the completion of the road. According to Mutharika, the name follows the demand from the chiefs of both Karonga and Chitipa and not his party.

Anti-Bingu high-way in Karonga and Chitipa petitioned APM    23-05-

Hundreds of anti Bingu high-way people in Karonga and Chitipa  on Monday petitioned the President Peter Muthalika to reverse the decision of using his late brother’s name to Karonga-Chitipa road.

The ministry of local government and rural development is in record informing council officials of both districts that the official naming of the road will be on 27 April 2016 as requested by Karonga and Chitipa chiefs.
